If the thought of visiting your dentist fills you with dread to the point that your heart rate increases, your hands become sweaty and clammy...you may have an extreme fear of the dentist.
Having a phobia or fear of the dentist can mean different things to different people. Some people don't like the thought of the needle, others fear that something may go wrong with the dental work that needs to be carried out by the dentists, others are scared of the noise of the dental equipment that is used during the treatment......and others don't even go as far as identifying exactly what their fear is about, other than dentist = huge amounts of fear and anxiety!
I have worked with many people who suffer from dental fears and phobias - people who would never have believed that it is possible to be able to visit the dentist in a composed manner. In working with you and your individual situation, you will be able to get that feeling of being back in control as we work through your dental phobia. Generally 1 or 2 sessions are all that is required to enable you to make that dentist appointment that you need to do.
WHAT A FORMER DENTAL PHOBIA CLIENT HAD TO SAY "Having had a dental phobia as long as I can remember, even a bad toothache was keeping me from making an appointment at my dentist. But after several days of agony I knew it wasn't going to go away and so I had my first session with Shirley. Shirley immediately put me at ease and we were able to uncover where the fear came from that I had subconsciously buried. I was able to walk away, and make the dental appointment. I now feel confident that I will go to the dentist every six months something that would never have contemplated previously." SA Hampshire
