Many people suffer from a fear of heights. It is one of the most common phobias that has been identified. Fear of heights is also known as acrophobia. Fear can range from butterfly nerves to an extreme fear response where the person may start having heart palpitations, sweaty and clammy hands and feel a tightness to their breathing. Regardless of what your fear response may be to height, it is a very uncomfortable situation to be in when the fear is irrational.
We all obviously need to have a certain level of fear towards height as it is part of our survival instinct. If your fear of heights prevents you from performing every day events, then it may be worth considering some form of treatment to overcome your irrational fear or phobia of heights. Generally fear of heights can be address in a session or two, depending on the severity of the fear or phobia.

I have worked very successfully with people who have had a range of fears related to heights such as :
-
fear of being in a glass panel lift
-
fear of being on an escalator in a multi story department store when you can see all the levels below
-
extreme fear of being on a ski lift (resulting in a very unfulfilling holiday experience!)
-
fear of riding on an elephant in Thailand (another unfulfilling experience!)
-
walking over height (and even not so high) bridges and walk ways
-
metal stairs or fire escapes where you can see the ground below
