Couples in love, sharing and enjoying each other is very fulfilling to see. Although every relationship experiences highs and lows, in a successful and happy realtionship, those times have a low impact on the couples' overall sense of well being. It is completely normal for couples to experience relationship problems at some points of their relationship. Two extremely important considerations when relationships encounter turbulent times are :
1. The duration of the relationship "lows"
2. The willingness to continue in the relationship, regardless of how bleak the situation may seem
If you are looking for some kind of help or counselling to get your relationship back on track, it means that you and your partner still feel there is something there to work on...and that is all that is needed. In fact, even if just one partner is wanting to seek help and the other is not wanting to participate in any form of relationship therapy, but is open and receptive to the other partner exploring relationship therapy, that is just as good too!
I work with individuals and couples in to reconnect with each other and recognise that those qualities that drew them together..are still there and can be just as endearing as when you first met.
There are many relationship myths out there that might make your situation feel like it has no hope, or that it will take constant "work" and effort to ensure the success of your relationship. In my experience and the way that I work, this simply is not true. Things that come naturally and that have a feeling of well being attached to them, happen without force and "trying". A bit like "trying to relax" - if someone is doing something they love to do and are enjoying it, they will naturally be relaxed. There is no "trying" involved. There is understanding, there is openess and awareness and of course a willingness to connect with feelings of love, happiness and intimacy for eachother. But it is not drugery or hardwork! It is insightful and inspiring.
